The Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (Sekolah Pascasarjana UGM) held a Publication Clinic on May 11th–12th 2026 at the Graduate School Building, Unit 1, UGM. This activity served as a follow-up to the Scientific Writing Workshop previously conducted as part of efforts to strengthen students’ academic publication capacity.
The Publication Clinic was attended by 20 master and doctoral students from various fields of study within the Graduate School of UGM. The program aimed to assist students in preparing journal articles that are ready for submission to both national and international scientific journals.
This activity provided students the opportunity to consult directly on their ongoing manuscripts, covering aspects such as content development, article structure, and publication strategies. Each article was reviewed by reviewers with relevant disciplinary expertise, ensuring that the feedback provided was more specific and highly relevant.
Reviewers, in addition to evaluating the substance of the manuscripts, also provided recommendations on suitable journals based on the topic and quality of each paper. They further encouraged students to be more confident in submitting their work to reputable international journals.
The chief of the organizing committee, Leonard C. Epafras, explained that the Publication Clinic has a different focus compared to thesis or dissertation supervision. “This clinic is different from thesis or dissertation supervision. In this program, reviewers primarily focus on evaluating journal articles prepared by students to ensure they are ready for publication in scientific journals,” he said.
Dr. Leonard also noted that students responded positively to the program, as they received direct guidance from competent reviewers in their respective fields. He expressed hope that the Publication Clinic could be held more regularly so that more students would benefit from assistance in the publication process.
This program represents one of the commitments of the Graduate School of UGM in achieving Key Performance Targets (KPT) mandated by UGM by improving both the quantity and quality of academic publications. This intensive mentoring shows that students are expected to be better prepared to publish their research in reputable national and international journals.
