Yogyakarta, August 21st 2026 — TheMedia and Cultural StudiesDoctoral Program (MCS), Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada, held the Study Progress Monitoring and Dissertation Proposal Workshop on Friday (21/8/2026). Held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Hotel ARTOTEL Suites Bianti, Yogyakarta. The activity was part of the Program’s efforts to strengthen academic support and ensure students’ academic progress and dissertation research remain on track.
The activity was attended by students of the Media and Cultural Studies Doctoral Program from the 2020–2025 cohorts, as well as the Program’s management and staff. The event consisted of two main agendas: Study Progress Monitoring for students from the 2020–2024 cohorts and a Dissertation Proposal Workshop for students from the 2025 cohort.
The morning session began with Study Progress Monitoring, held from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. The session provided an opportunity for the Program to monitor students’ academic and dissertation research progress and identify academic needs that require further attention throughout the completion of their studies.
The monitoring session served as an evaluation forum and as a space for communication of students and the Program management. The discussion enabled students to present their research progress and discuss various aspects of their academic journey, allowing the Program to provide targeted support for the next stages of their studies.
The activity, following the monitoring session and break, continued in the afternoon with the Dissertation Proposal Workshop for the 2025 Cohort, held from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. The workshop provided an academic forum for students to present and discuss their dissertation research proposals.
The workshop featured Budiawan, S.S., M.A., Ph.D. and Ratna Noviani, S.I.P., M.Si., Ph.D. as reviewers. The workshop was divided into two groups, allowing students to receive more focused feedback on their respective research proposals.
The presentations and discussion made students the opportunity to receive feedback on various aspects of their proposals, including their research focus and questions as well as the academic framework underlying their studies. The reviewers’ input is expected to help students clarify their research direction and further develop their proposals before proceeding to the next stages of their dissertation research.
The integration of study progress monitoring and the dissertation proposal workshop in a single program reflected the Media and Cultural Studies Doctoral Program’s commitment to establish continuous academic support with the doctoral study process. The monitoring session focuses on maintaining students’ academic progress, while the proposal workshop strengthens the quality of their research designs from the early stages.
This activity showed the Media and Cultural Studies Doctoral Program is expected to continue fostering an academic environment that supports students in completing their studies in a focused and timely manner and produce dissertations with strong academic contributions. Regular academic support also serves as an important mechanism for strengthening communication among students, the Program management, and academics involved in the development of dissertation research.
