Yogyakarta, April 19th 2026 – The Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FK-KMK) Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) organized yearly 3 Communities and Family Health Care Interprofessional Education (CFHC-IPE) learning activity. The event was held at Al-Huda Mosque and the volleyball court in Dusun Jetis Cerbonan, Sendangmulyo Village, Minggir Subdistrict, Sleman Regency.
This activity aimed to increase public awareness of health and disaster preparation in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on ecosystem protection and management. By building resilient communities, this initiative also supports industrial diversification with the promotion of health education and disaster readiness.
Dr. Edwin Maulana, S.Pd., M.Sc., the quality assurance coordinator of the Disaster Management Master Program at UGM, was invited as a speaker to share his knowledge and expertise in this community service activity. His insights were highly valuable in guiding participants on how to manage health and disaster risks in their local environments.
The main theme of this activity, “Health Awareness, Disaster Awareness: Collaboration for Resilient Communities,” encouraged community members to actively participate in disaster response training. The material presented by Dr. Edwin Maulana focused on “Mitigation of Strong Winds and Tornadoes.”
The participants consisted of students and community members who collaborated to provide comprehensive health education and disaster preparedness training. This interprofessional approach will enriched students’ learning experiences and also ensured that the community received holistic and relevant information.
Local governments also have the responsibility to make policies related to spatial planning and to require home insurance in disaster-prone areas. At the end of the activity, participants expressed their gratitude for the knowledge gained and emphasized the importance of such initiatives in building resilient communities. The success of this event serves as a model for future collaboration of academic institutions and local communities in disaster preparedness.
