Agenda : Research Seminar; “The Environmental Management Model on Land Utilization Allocation of Mangrove for Fishpond Development in Southern Part of East Lombok District, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia”

Abstract

The conflict between conservation of mangrove with it’s conversion for fishpond development was one of the main problem faced on coastal development in Indonesia. But and at this time it did not yet have the research that showed how the management model. How many percent the land of mangrove that might be converted and how many must be preserved, until this time that was not yet known definitely. In each conflict, the mangrove always experienced tha damages, because up until now the mangrove was viewed only for it’s physical product (tangible benefit), where as the additional value and the environmental services (intangible benefit) are ignored because it was considered that it could not be marketed or it was too small economically.

The objective of this research is : 1) to analysis the suitability of the environmental (biogeophysical-chemical) characteristic of mangrove for fishpond development in Southern part of East Lombok, 2) to generate the total economic value of mangrove in Southern part of East Lombok, 3) to determine the feasibility on land utilization of mangrove for fishpond development in Southern part of East Lombok, and 4) to determine the optimum land utilization allocation of mangrove for fishpond development in Southern part of East Lombok based on total economic value.

The analysis method application in this research is 1) the environmental characteristic analysis of mangrove for fishpond development, 2) the total economic value analysis, 3) the benefit cost analysis, and 4) the linier programming analysis.

The land of mangrove in Southern part of East Lombok is marginal suitable for fishpond development. Total economic value of mangrove in Southern part of East Lombok is Rp 104.212.120 /hectare. The land utilization of mangrove for fishpond development in Southern part of East Lombok is feasible on financial, but not feasible in economic. The optimum land utilization allocation of mangrove for fishpond development in Southern part of East Lombok is 38-39%
