Yogyakarta June 4th, 2026 – The Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (SPs UGM) welcomed a visit from the Regional Research and Innovation Agency (BRIDA) of Muara Enim Regency on Thursday (June 4th 2026), from 09:00 to 11:00 WIB in Yogyakarta. The meeting was an effort to strengthen the synergy of higher education institutions and local governments in the fields of research and regional development.
The BRIDA delegation was led directly by the Chief of the Agency along with members of the organization. Representing SPs UGM were the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Cooperation; the Vice Dean for Finance, Assets, and Human Resources; the Coordinator of the Cooperation Unit and team; the Coordinator of the Research and Publication Unit; the Chiefs of the Environmental Science Master’s and Doctoral Programs; the Chiefs of the Tourism Master’s and Doctoral Programs; as well as several related staff members.
Both parties, in their welcoming remarks, emphasized that collaboration of Muara Enim Regency and UGM has been established with various activities over the past several years. This commitment was further strengthened through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2025 as a foundation for broader future collaboration.
The visit of BRIDA Muara Enim Regency to SPs UGM aimed to explore opportunities for cooperation in research and tourism sector development, particularly with the Mining Tourism Development Study in the Mining Areas of Muara Enim Regency 2026. This initiative is expected to become one of the strategies for regional economic development by utilizing mining areas that possess educational, historical, and tourism value.
Both parties, during the meeting, shared their experiences and best practices in conducting various research and regional development studies. The discussion was highly interactive, focusing on the potential, challenges, and approaches that could be applied to develop a sustainable mining tourism concept.
The Chief of Tourism the Master and Doctoral Programs at SPs UGM emphasized the importance of developing a roadmap as the foundation for mining tourism destination development. Such a roadmap is essential for identifying and mapping key aspects, ranging from cultural potential and physical site conditions to the readiness of human resources that will support the sustainability of the program.
Through this meeting, SPs UGM and BRIDA Muara Enim Regency hope to create more concrete opportunities for collaboration in research, tourism development, and the formulation of research-based policy recommendations that can provide benefits to the community and regional development.
