Purworejo, January 20th 2025 – The Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (SPs UGM) has inaugurated a bore well for the residents of Karangrejo Village, Loano District, Purworejo Regency, as part of its Community Service Program (PkM) aimed at providing clean water access to the local community.

The Chief of Karangrejo Village, Mr. Turahman, expressed his gratitude for the assistance provided. “We are grateful to SPs UGM and the alumni of SMAN 1 Purworejo (Muda Ganesa) for this extraordinary collaboration. This bore well will be very helpful in providing  clean water for our residents,” he said.

Water from the bore well will be stored in a reservoir owned by Pamsimas, which will then be distributed to the residents’ homes through the existing pipeline network. The existence of this bore well is expected to be a long-term solution to the clean water issue in Karangrejo Village.

The Dean of SPs UGM, Prof. Ir. Siti Malkhamah, M.Sc., Ph.D., in her speech, praised the collaboration between SPs UGM, the PkM team of the Doctoral Program in Environmental Science, and Muda Ganesa. “The use of electromagnetic technology in the process of creating this bore well is very innovative, enabling the process to be accelerated and producing high-quality water sources,” she stated.

She also added that clean water is a basic need that can increase community productivity. “We hope that, with the fulfillment of clean water needs, Karangrejo Village can develop further, both in the food sector and in the development of village tourism,” she added.

This program not only provides direct benefits to the community of Karangrejo Village but also serves as a real example of collaboration between academics, alumni, and the community in achieving the sustainable development goals (SDGs), particularly in terms of access to clean water and sanitation.
