Yogyakarta, August 14th 2026 — The Media and Cultural Doctoral Program (KBM), Graduate School, Universitas Gadjah Mada, held an Introduction and Orientation Program for New Students for the 2026/2027 Academic Year on Friday (August 14th). Held at Meeting Room C, Graduate School Building, UGM, the program marked the beginning of the new students’ academic journey and introduced them to the academic environment and doctoral education at KBM.

A total of nine new students were admitted to the Doctoral Program in Media and Cultural Studies for the 2026/2027 Academic Year, with eight students attending the program. The event began with introductions between the new students and the program management team, providing an opportunity for students to become acquainted with the KBM academic community.

Head of the Doctoral Program in Media and Cultural Studies, Ratna Noviani, S.I.P., M.Si., Ph.D., introduced Media and Cultural Studies as a field of study characterized by multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches. The new students also received an overview of the stages they will undertake throughout their doctoral studies at KBM.

The students, in addition to introducing the field of study and the stages of doctoral education, received information on various aspects required attention in their studies. Dr. Budiawan, Chief of Quality Assurance for the Media and Cultural Doctoral Program, outlined several common challenges that students may encounter in completing their studies and graduating on time.

One of the aspects highlighted during the program was the importance of managing the study process consistently. Students were introduced to the need to maintain continuity of the various stages of doctoral education, particularly in light of the change in the stipulated study period, which has been shortened from the previous four-year target to three years.

The program featured an interactive discussion and question-and-answer session. New students had the opportunity to engage with the program management team on academic life and various aspects of doctoral education at KBM.

The Introduction and Orientation Program concluded with an informal gathering and a group photo. The program is expected to provide new students with an initial understanding of the academic field, stages of education, and dynamics of doctoral study that they will encounter in their education at the Graduate School, Universitas Gadjah Mada.
