The Islamic Economics and Halal Industry Doctoral Program (PIIH), Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (SPs UGM), organized a research workshop titled “Systematic Literature Review: The Foundation of Scientific Contribution in Doctoral Research through Watase UAKE” on Monday, May 4th 2026. The event was held at Meeting Room A, 5th Floor of the Graduate School Building, UGM, and was specifically attended by doctoral (PhD) students of the PIIH program.

The workshop featured Dr. Lilik Wahyudi, a lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Sebelas Maret, as well as the Founder of Watase UAKE, as the keynote speaker. In his presentation, Dr. Lilik emphasized the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) served as a fundamental basis for producing strong scientific contributions, particularly in doctoral research.

The workshop was divided into three main sessions. The first session was an introduction to systematic literature review, including an overview of the PRISMA and SPAR-4-SLR protocols. Participants were also introduced to techniques for identifying keywords, screening and assessing article eligibility, and strategies for information extraction and classification to identify research novelty.

The second session focused on literature analysis, including research gap analysis, hypothesis network analysis, framework identification analysis, and meta-analysis. This session encouraged participants to identify research gaps and develop strong and well-structured conceptual frameworks.

The third session discussed the process of writing and publishing SLR articles. The speaker shared practical tips on preparing systematic scientific manuscripts and strategies to increase the chances of publication in reputable journals.

One of the participants, M. Agus Futuhul, expressed his positive impression of the workshop. “This workshop has been very helpful in enabling me to understand the steps of Systematic Literature Review in a more structured and practical way, especially in developing strong scientific contributions for doctoral research. I also gained new insights into literature search strategies and more effective reference management. I hope that activities like this will continue to be held as they are highly relevant and beneficial for enhancing students’ academic capacity,” he stated.

PIIH doctoral students will become increasingly capable of conducting systematic and comprehensive literature reviews with this activity and resulting in high-quality doctoral research that significantly contributes to the advancement of knowledge.
