The Leadership and Policy Innovation Master’s and Doctoral Program (KIK), Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (SPs UGM), held an Opening and Pre-Course Orientation for New Students of the 2026/2027 Odd Semester from August 10th–14th, 2026. The activity was conducted online via Zoom as part of the student welcoming program and initial orientation before students began their coursework.

The program provided new students with an introduction to the postgraduate academic environment, UGM values, academic systems, the program management, and foundational knowledge to support learning in leadership, innovation, and public policy.

The program began on Monday, August 10th 2026, with a session entitled “Introduction to Postgraduate Research,” delivered by Prof. Ir. Achmad Djunaedi, MURP, Ph.D. The session introduced students to postgraduate research and highlighted the importance of research skills in developing academic capacity. In the afternoon, students received an orientation session for KIK Master’s and Doctoral students delivered by Prof. Dr. Djokosantoso Moeljono.

The Chief of the KIK Doctoral Program, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Maryudi, and the Chief of the KIK Master  Program, Makbul Hajad, S.TP., M.Eng., Ph.D., also provided orientation during the Course Opening and Study Program Management Introduction Session on Tuesday, August 11th 2026. They introduced the new students to the study program and used the session as an initial opportunity to establish communication between students and the study program management.

Students, during the session, were introduced to the KIK Study Program management team who will support them throughout their studies. The introduction helped students understand whom they can contact regarding various academic and administrative needs during their study. For new students, understanding the study program’s management structure provides an important foundation for navigating their coursework in a more organized manner.

The five-day program also provided students with insights into postgraduate research, theories of leadership and policy innovation, academic communication ethics, applications supporting coursework and academic journals, as well as research ethics and thesis writing.

New students, with the program, gained a better understanding of the academic environment, support mechanisms throughout their studies, and various aspects they need to prepare for their educational journey at SPs UGM.
