The Environmental Management Master Interest under the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (SPs UGM) conducted a visit to the Josaphat Microwave Remote Sensing Laboratory, Center for Environmental Remote Sensing, Chiba University (JMRSL-CU) on January 25th 2025. This activity is a bridge to connect international cooperation between SPs and foreign partners.

The delegation from SPs was led directly by Prof. Ir. Siti Malkhamah, M.Sc., Dean of the Graduate School. In addition, the Chief of Quality Assurance for Environmental Science Doctoral Program and the Chief of the Master of Environmental Management Interest also participated in this visit. The academic service managers and laboratory assistants also fully participated in the series of visit activities.

Prof. Josaphat Tetuko Sri Sumantyo, B.Eng., M.Eng., Ph.D., as the head of JMRSL-CU welcomed the visit of SPs very well. He expressed his enthusiasm for this collaboration and emphasized the importance of integrating sophisticated remote sensing technology in environmental studies.

The partnership aims to enhance the educational framework and research capabilities at both institutions. During the visit, discussions were held on potential joint research projects. In addition, a tour of the state-of-the-art facilities at JMRSL-CU was conducted to observe various remote sensing technologies in use. This hands-on experience provided valuable insights into how these technologies can be applied to address environmental challenges.

SPs and JMRSL-CU recognize the importance of building global partnerships that benefit the institution and contribute to the broader sustainable development goals. This collaboration is expected to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and innovation in environmental management practices.

The collaboration between SPs UGM and Chiba University is a significant step towards achieving the SDGs, especially in promoting quality education and building global partnerships. Both parties expressed their commitment to formalize the partnership through a memorandum of understanding (MoU). This agreement will outline a framework for future collaboration, including student exchanges, joint research initiatives, and shared resources.
