
The Graduate School Canteen (Sekolah Pascasarjana/SPs) of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has officially received halal certification from the Indonesian Ulama Council (MUI) with certificate number ID34110021097911224, dated January 22nd 2025. The certification covers three food stalls operating within the SPs UGM area: Warung Bu Sum, Warung Bu Tum, and Warung Bu Ning.
The award ceremony was held on Friday, May 2nd 2025, at the Graduate School Canteen, and was officiated by the Dean of SPs UGM, Prof. Ir. Siti Malkhamah, M.Sc., Ph.D. The event was also attended by the Vice Dean for Academic, Student Affairs, and Cooperation; the Vice Dean for Finance, Assets, and Human Resources; the Chief of the Religious and Cross-Cultural Studies Program focused on Islamic Economics; and staff of SPs.
In her speech, Prof. Siti Malkhamah expressed deep gratitude and appreciation to all parties who contributed to the certification process, particularly the Doctoral Program in Islamic Economics and Halal Industry, which initiated the proposal for halal certification.
The halal certification process was led by Prof. Ir. Yuny Erwanto, S.Pt., M.P., Ph.D., IPM, a lecturer in the Doctoral Program in Islamic Economics and Halal Industry (PIIH) from the Faculty of Animal Science at UGM. He served as the Chief of the Halal Product Certification Team, supported by a team of PIIH doctoral students: Muhammad Jefriyanto Budikafa, Rani Surya Resiana, Fauziyah, Rita Thursina Murti, and Yuliani Sari Devi.
The inauguration event concluded with a communal breakfast in front of the SPs canteen as a gesture of gratitude and unity among all elements of the Graduate School community.
Obtaining the halal certification marked the first step in strengthening the halal economy and industry ecosystem on campus, and it is expected to inspire other units at UGM.
This initiative also aligns with the implementation of SDG Number 2 (Zero Hunger), Number 4 (Quality Education), and Number 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
