Yogyakarta, April 13th 2025 – The Technology for Sustainable Development Master Program (MTPB) Interest of the Graduate School of Gadjah Mada University (UGM) conducted a field visit to Nanggulan Hamlet, Maguwoharjo Village, Special Region of Yogyakarta. This activity was coordinated by Dr. Muhammad Sulaiman, S.T., M.T., D.Eng as the chief of the MTPB interest.

This field visit aims to directly study the waste management practices implemented by the local community. This is part of the effort to identify and document local initiatives in environmental management, especially regarding community-based waste management.

During the visit, students were greeted directly by Mr. Sasmimta as the Head of Nanggulan Hamlet who provided an explanation of the steps to overcome the waste problem. Students actively asked about the waste management mechanism in detail.

The innovation used by the Nanggulan Hamlet community in managing waste can be an inspiration by utilizing advances in incinerator technology. This tool has proven effective in reducing the amount of daily waste that is difficult to decompose and recycle.

Waste management in Nanggulan Hamlet is encouraged to be community-based. There are groups such as Karang Taruna, Women Farmers Group (KWT), and waste banks. The raising of awareness management is a shared responsibility between the community and government officials.
