The Biotechnology Master Program at the Graduate School of Gadjah Mada University (UGM) officially received Excellent Accreditation status from LAMSAMA (Independent Accreditation Institution for Natural Sciences and Formal Sciences). This certification was issued on March 10th 2026, and is valid for the next five years. This achievement affirmed this program’s commitment in maintaining and continuously improving the quality of higher education.
This success is the result of a long and systematic process that reflects the program commitment in building a culture of quality. The stages began with the comprehensive preparation of accreditation documents (forms), followed by a review process by external reviewers, and a series of revisions and refinements before the document was officially submitted.
A crucial stage in this process was the field assessment, which took place from February 2nd–5th 2026. During the visit, the Biotechnology Master Program was assessed by two assessors: Prof. Tjandra Anggraeni, Ph.D. from the Bandung Institute of Technology and Prof. Amin Setyo Leksono, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D. from Brawijaya University. Both come from major institutions with strong academic traditions, so their assessment approach reflects high professional standards organized, disciplined, and systems-based.
This professionalism, during the field assessment, was shown in every stage of the evaluation. The process focused not only on document verification but also on a thorough examination of the curriculum, learning implementation, and accountability for study program outcomes. The assessor panel examined in detail the curriculum was designed and implemented, learning outcomes measurement, and the contributions of graduates and study program research were accounted for academically and socially.
Furthermore, the management system across all levels both academic and non-academic was a primary focus in the assessment. Governance, quality assurance, resource management, and support facilities and information systems were reviewed in an integrated manner to ensure quality was planned and also consistently and sustainably implemented.
One month after the field assessment, the official accreditation results were announced on March 10th 2026, with the achievement of “Unggul” (Excellent) status. This result reflected the consistency and quality of study program management, which met standards and also demonstrated excellence in various academic and institutional aspects.
This success, more than just an administrative achievement, provides valuable institutional learning for the Graduate School. The in-depth and professional assessment process provides a new perspective that accreditation is not merely a formality or data confirmation agenda, but rather a strategic instrument for assessing and strengthening the quality of the system as a whole.
As a research-based study program, the Biotechnology Master Program plays a strategic role in the development of science and technology that impacts society. Achieving “Unggul” accreditation provides a foundation for continuously improving the quality of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, expanding collaboration, and strengthening scientific contributions to support sustainable development.
The Biotechnology Master Program at the UGM Graduate School, by achieving “Unggul” status, affirms its commitment to maintaining high academic standards while developing innovation and excellence that adapt to global dynamics in the field of biotechnology.
