Responding the visit of the Director of the Graduate School of Gadjah Mada university to the University of Hasanuddin, Makasar on 20-23 April 2008 to establish study programs of Gadjah Mada University at the University of Hasanuddin, the Graduate School of UGM welcomed the visit of the Director of Graduate Programs of the University of Hasanuddin last Saturday, 17 May 2008. During the conversation between Prof. Irwan Abdullah (Director of Graduate School of GMU), Prof. Abdul Halim (Vice Director of Administrative and finance), the Director of Middle East Studies, Culture and Media Studies, and Center for Religious and Cross-cultural Studies (CRCS), Director of Graduate Program of University of Hasanuddin Makasar, and vise Director of Administrative affairs, Prof. Dr. Ir. Basit Wello, M.Sc., GMU and University of Hasanuddin have agreed to conduct study programs of GMU at the University of Hasanuddin. The study programs include: Culture and Media Studies, Center for Religious and Cross-cultural Studies, Middle East Studies and National Resilience Studies. Gadjah Mada University and the University of Hasanuddin will appoint its representatives to discuss further about curriculum, financial and administrative issues.
As mentioned by Prof. Irwan Abdullah in his welcoming speech, the collaboration between GMU and the University of Hasanuddin has existed for a couple of years, especially between the Faculty of Law, the Department of Notary at Gadjah Mada University and the Department of Law at the University of Hasanuddin. As a matter of fact, there will be no administrative barriers regarding the establishment of this collaboration. In addition, Prof. Irwan explained that this collaboration will give the University of Hasanuddin an opportunity to learn from Gadjah Mada University to conduct good Study Programs at University of Hasanuddin.
In his speech, Prof.Dr.dr. Razak Thaha expressed his happiness regarding this cooperation. Moreover, he said that the University of Hasanuddin will provide all facilities needed by Gadjah Mada University in conducting study programs. According to him, students will be interested in applying for one of four study programs since Gadjah Mada University has been acknowledged as one of the best universities in Indonesia. In addition, students will study in Makasar, instead of coming to Yogyakarta to study at GMU Moreover, Prof. Thaha said that this collaboration will be very helpful to create more networking between GMU and the University of Hasanuddin in the future.
