Yogyakarta, May 7th 2026 – The efforts to strengthen human resource capacity in disaster management continue to grow with collaboration of academia and government institutions. The Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (SPs UGM) welcomed a visit from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) to explore opportunities for research-based educational cooperation for BNPB staff with the Disaster Management Master Program (MMB).
The visit was led directly by the Secretary-General of BNPB, Dr. Rustian, S.Si., Apt., M.Kes., and attended by several lecturers from Andalas University. The meeting took place in a warm and collaborative atmosphere, focusing on the development of the research learning pathway considered highly relevant to current disaster management challenges in Indonesia.
The by research scheme offered an innovative approach that allows students to pursue academic learning and also to produce research with direct impact on institutional and community needs. BNPB staff, with this approach, are expected to strengthen their academic competencies while generating data-driven innovations and field-based solutions in disaster management.
The Disaster Management Master Program at SPs UGM is recognized as a multidisciplinary program focusing on strengthening capacities in mitigation, readiness, emergency response, and post-disaster recovery. This collaboration is expected to be a strategic building step toward an adaptive learning ecosystem that responds effectively to the evolving disaster risks in Indonesia.
SPs UGM, with this meeting, reaffirmed its commitment to becoming a strategic partner in developing relevant, applicable, and impactful higher education for society. The synergy of SPs UGM, BNPB, and universities is expected to produce outstanding human resources who are well-prepared to face future disaster challenges.
