CRCS and ICRS-Yogya are the Master and a Ph.D programs in religious and cross-cultural studies at Gadjah Mada University. CRCS is a regular Master Program of the Graduate School of Gadjah Mada University, whereas ICRS-Yogya is a consortium of three universities: Gadjah Mada University, State Islamic University Sunan Kalijaga, and Duta Wacana Christian University. In 2007, ICRS-Yogya and CRCS were selected as Centers of Academic Excellence in Religious Studies by the Indonesian Department of Higher Education (DIKTI), Indonesia.

The primary vision of CRCS is to promote and develop democratic and multicultural societies. This master program, which was established in 2000, offers students to study Interfaith Dialogue, Religion and Local Culture and Religion and Contemporary Issues.

The primary strength of ICRS-Yogya is the study of Asian religions, including Indonesian Islam and Asian Christianity. It can facilitate study on Balinese Hinduism, Indonesian Buddhism, Indonesian Chinese religions and local religious communities connected with specific ethnic groups like Javanese mysticism. The academic focus of ICRS-Yogya lies within three main field of research: History of Religions in Indonesia, Religion and Contemporary Issues, and Comparative Interpretation of Sacred Texts.

As international programs, CRCS and ICRS-Yogya give chance to their students to spend a five-month sandwich program in several outstanding foreign universities. Some of the students have come from and have been doing their sandwich programs, for example at Georgetown University, Duke University, Florida International University, Temple University, Cape Town University and at the National University of Singapore.
