Yogyakarta, April 20th 2026 – The Higher Education Management Master Program (MMPT) at the UGM Graduate School (SPs) has reaffirmed its commitment to maintain academic quality with the 2026 Curriculum Workshop. This strategic meeting was organized responding to global standard dynamics and the needs of higher education practitioners in Indonesia. Focusing on international curriculum adjustments, this workshop aimed to create a more adaptive learning structure for postgraduate students. This step stands as tangible proof that SPs UGM continuously strives to provide a relevant space for scientific development for the entire academic community.
The main focus of the discussion was the integration of international standards with the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) framework. By converting academic loads into the 90–100 ECTS range, the program adjusted the weight of core courses to strengthen cooperation networks with overseas partners. Beyond internationalization, the workshop paid significant attention on the accelerating graduation, especially for students in their final study phases. Program managers emphasized the importance of intensive communication of supervisors and students, as well as providing alternative non-thesis final assignments—such as projects or prototypes—that can be presented at prestigious forums like the International Graduate Students and Scholars’ Conference in Indonesia (IGSSCI).
The discussion remained active when addressing the flexibility of learning methods. Given that the majority of MMPT students are education staff (tendik) with high operational mobility, the program designed a hybrid learning model with a proportion of 60% online and 40% offline. This innovation is expected to expand access to education without compromising the quality of academic interaction. Furthermore, the workshop explored the potential for strengthening funding through collaboration with various national and global philanthropic institutions. This synergy aims to open scholarship opportunities as widely as possible for education practitioners to contribute back to advancing higher education in their respective regions.
This curriculum transformation initiative is a concrete step by MMPT SPs UGM toward supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The program aligns with Quality Education (SDG 4) by providing access to globally standardized knowledge. On the other hand, expanding networks with philanthropic partners and international institutions explicitly supports Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17). The curriculum update will enable SPs UGM to produce graduates who are not only superior managerially but also capable of being agents of change in various educational institutions. It is hoped that this sustainable step will further strengthen UGM’s position as a leader in higher education management at the global level.
