The harvest of residents in Karangrejo Village, Loano Subdistrict, Purworejo Regency has increased significantly after irrigation from wells. It was the result of a community service program (PkM) conducted by the Graduate School (SPs), Ministry of Agriculture, Pamsimas, and the alumni family of SMAN 1 Purworejo in 2024.
“The wells from the PkM activities are able to irrigate 5 hectares of rice fields. Previously (before the wells), the planting cycle in one year was once for rice and once for secondary crops (palawija). Now, in one year can we grow rice twice and secondary crops once a year,” said the Chief of Karangrejo Village. He further stated that with a rice harvest of 7 to 8 tons per hectare with price of IDR 6,000 per kilogram, the additional income would be IDR 42,000,000 x 5 hectares = IDR 210,000,000 per year. This increasing harvest greatly helps improve the community welfare.
In response, the people of Karangrejo expressed their gratitude to Allah SWT and their heartfelt thanks to the Graduate School (SPs), which carried out the PkM activities eight months ago. They hope that the collaboration can continue in the future in broader areas.
As previously reported, the provision of these irrigation wells is part of a series of community service activities conducted by the Graduate School (SPs), spearheaded by the Environmental Science Master’s and Doctoral programs throughout 2024. (Suronokarti)
