Yogyakarta, July 4th 2026 — The Biotechnology Master’s Program, Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (SPs UGM) organized the Biotech Student Camp 2026 on Thursday, July 2nd 2026. Taking place at the SPs UGM Building, this annual event served as a strategic platform for the 2024 cohort of master’s students. This scientific forum required its participants to present their research progress entirely in English. This initiative is part of the study program’s concrete efforts to support the acceleration of students’ final project completion. Through this activity, students are expected to measure the extent of the research progress they have achieved so far.
Under the theme “Research Catalyst: Create Insight, Reframe the Future,” the event featured presentations from master’s students who have not yet taken their thesis exams. The presentation sessions were systematically divided into seven main panels. These seven panels covered specific areas of expertise, namely the clusters of Agriculture, Health, Industry, and Environment. Interactive discussions in each session were directly guided by moderators consisting of students who had already completed their thesis exams. This active involvement was considered successful in creating a collaborative and participatory academic atmosphere. During each presentation, students did not only present their research achievements but were also challenged to answer questions and respond to feedback that stimulated critical thinking.
The event, beyond serving merely as a monitoring and evaluation tool, which ran from morning to afternoon, was designed as a collective learning space. Dozens of master’s students appeared enthusiastic in participating in the entire series of events until the end. At the end of the session, the committee held a vote to select the participants with the best performances. The forum, as an appreciation for the students’ argumentation and presentation skills, awarded prizes for several prestigious categories. These categories included the titles of Best Speaker, The Most Eye-Catching Presentation, and The Most Active Participant.
The Chief of the Biotechnology Master Program at UGM, Dr. Dini Wahyu Kartika Sari, S.Pi., M.Si., emphasized that this activity, initiated in 2023, has clear objectives. Its main focus is to continuously increase the on-time graduation rate for all students. “One of the reasons is to ensure that the Biotechnology accreditation remains superior and continues to hold ASIIN accreditation,” she explained in her speech. She added that a program without superior accreditation cannot admit LPDP awardees. This condition could certainly disadvantage alumni applying for jobs, thus negatively impacting their future career prospects. Therefore, students are encouraged not only to focus on the substance of their research but also to continuously hone their professional communication skills in scientific forums.
Overall, the implementation of the Biotech Student Camp 2026 reflected the firm commitment of SPs UGM. This commitment focuses on efforts to build an academic ecosystem that strongly supports student involvement in research networks. This activity is also confirmed to contribute directly to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The improvement of Quality Education (SDG 4) is achieved with continuous active learning models and study acceleration programs. Furthermore, the diverse research developed by the students within various clusters perfectly aligns with the efforts to develop Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9).
