Jakarta, February 26th 2026 – The Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (SPs UGM) has taken a strategic role to establish a better future in housing with active involvement in national development policies. In a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) organized by the Sustainable Development Graduate School, Universitas Indonesia (SPPB UI) and the Emil Salim Institute at the UI Salemba Campus, SPs UGM was represented by Dr. Sudaryatno, M.Si.

This meeting served as a crucial dialogue forum ensuring the national development agenda—particularly the target of building 3 million houses—aligning with the principles of environmental sustainability, social justice, and economic resilience. Astacita in the housing sector also serves as the foundation for government programs aimed at providing decent and affordable housing for the people.

The urgency of integrating housing development with spatial planning, during the discussion, based on environmental carrying capacity and adequate drainage systems was emphasized. It is considered essential to minimize disaster risks, such as flooding, which often affects residential areas due to weak synchronization between development policies and ecological conditions.

The discussion, as a long-term solution, highlighted the implementation of green building concepts, energy efficiency, and the provision of green open spaces, which must be integrated into every stage of national policy planning and implementation. Through multidisciplinary research synergy and active involvement in science-based policy formulation, SPs UGM reaffirmed its commitment in ensuring that future national housing development to be more inclusive, disaster-resilient, and environmentally oriented for the well-being of both present and future generations.
