Yogyakarta, April 30th 2025 – The Bioethics Master Program at the Graduate School held two main events: an Alumni Sharing Webinar and a Program Open House, under the theme “Voicing and Empowering: Women Navigating the Ethics of Reproductive Health.” This event served as both a reflective and advocative space in addressing ethical challenges faced by women in accessing reproductive health services.
Reproductive health issues are medical and also deeply intertwined with social, cultural, and ethical dimensions. Many health services still neglect core ethical principles such as autonomy, justice, beneficence, and non-maleficence, especially in the context of women’s care. This webinar aimed to unpack these complexities and promote a paradigm shift toward more just, equitable, and humane healthcare services.
Three main speakers shared their insights and experiences. Dr. dr. Nasrudin A.M., Sp.Og(K)., MARS., M.Sc., FISQua, AIFO-K opened the session with a presentation titled “Measuring Ethics: Access and Justice for Women’s Reproductive Health,” emphasizing the importance of fairness and equal access within reproductive health systems.
The session continued with Dr. Narumi Hayakawa, M.Bioet, who delivered a talk titled “Women Speak: Feminist Ethics in Reproductive Health,” focusing on the need for feminist ethical approaches to strengthen women’s voices and rights in healthcare services.
The closing session was delivered by Dr. Wika Hartanti, MIH, who introduced the The Bioethics Master Program with her presentation, “Getting to Know the Master’s in Bioethics: Across Disciplines, Across Meanings.” She explained the urgency of interdisciplinary education that integrates ethical values into decision-making in health and public policy.
This interactive discussion was moderated by Ns. Wahyu Dewi S., MSN, who skillfully guided the dialogue and summarized the key points from each speaker. The Open House session also served as a moment for the Bioethics Master’s Program to present itself more closely to the public and open a dialogue about the strategic role of bioethics in addressing ethical challenges in health and society.
This event is expected to inspire more stakeholders to recognize the importance of ethics in healthcare and public policy. As more individuals from diverse backgrounds join bioethics education, a more inclusive, just, and human-centered healthcare ecosystem can emerge.
