Yogyakarta – The Directorate of Education and Teaching, in collaboration with the Graduate School (SPs) of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), held a public lecture titled Geomaritime Dynamics in the Indonesian Region at the Auditorium, 5th Floor of SPs UGM. The event featured Admiral (Ret.) Prof. Dr. Marsetio was the keynote speaker and was moderated by Budiawan, S.S, M.A., Ph.D., Chief of the Doctoral Program in Cultural and Media Studies at SPs UGM.

The lecture opened with remarks from the Dean of the Graduate School, followed by a speech from UGM Vice-Rector for Education and Teaching, Prof. Dr. Wening Udasmoro, S.S., M.Hum., DEA. She highlighted the ongoing imbalance in Indonesia as an archipelagic country, making this lecture highly relevant to addressing such issues. She also expressed her hope that the discussion would provide valuable insights and knowledge for all participants.

As the keynote speaker, Prof. Dr. Marsetio explored various strategic aspects of Indonesia’s geomaritime dynamics, including geopolitical challenges, the potential of marine resources, and policies that can strengthen Indonesia’s position as a global maritime axis. The discussion also emphasized how cultural, economic, and political factors influence the maritime sector.

Students from various faculties and participants from different backgrounds enthusiastically engaged in the lecture. They attentively listened to the speaker’s presentation and actively participated in the question-and-answer session. Thought-provoking questions were raised, covering topics such as maritime security policies and strategies for sustainable marine resource management. This public lecture served as an essential academic forum for understanding the complexities of Indonesia’s geomaritime dynamics while enriching participants’ perspectives on the subject.
