Yogyakarta (20/08/2024) – Universitas Gadjah Mada Graduate School (SPs UGM) distributed approximately 500 eco-friendly refillable water bottles (tumblers) to speakers, moderators, panelists, invited guests, and participants of the Railway Transportation Seminar, which was held over three series. This tumbler distribution initiative is one of the concrete steps taken by SPs UGM to support sustainable environmental development programs and reduce plastic waste on campus.

The Dean of SPs UGM, Prof. Ir. Siti Malkhamah, M.Sc., Ph.D., stated that the tumbler distribution is part of SPs UGM’s commitment to encouraging both internal and external stakeholders to jointly reduce the use of single-use plastic bottles. “We hope that this initiative can inspire everyone involved to be more environmentally conscious by reducing plastic waste, both on campus and in their daily lives,” she said.

Furthermore, Prof. Siti Malkhamah emphasized that SPs UGM carries a mission to support sustainability by actively participating in various activities aimed at preventing the generation of plastic waste. She added that this policy is part of SPs UGM’s efforts to support larger environmental initiatives, which are also expected to serve as an example for other institutions in conducting eco-friendly activities.

Through this movement, SPs UGM hopes to inspire the entire academic community and the broader public to become more environmentally aware and to adopt habits that support environmental conservation.
