Yogyakarta, September 25th 2026 — Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held PIONEER 4 – UGM International Cultural Day 2026 under the theme “Celebrating Diversity, Connecting Cultures” on Friday (September 25th) at the UGM Museum courtyard. The event marked the closing of the Program for International Orientation and New-student Empowerment to Enhance Readiness (PIONEER) series.
The event was officially opened by the Vice Rector for Research, Business Development, and Cooperation at UGM and attended by international students of various faculties across UGM. Embracing the spirit of diversity and cultural exchange, the event provided a space for students to learn about one another and share the cultures of their respective countries.
The Graduate School of UGM (SPs UGM) is also home to international students from various countries, enrolled in both degree and non-degree programs, as part of its multicultural academic community. They come from diverse regions, including Asia, Europe, the Americas, Africa, and ASEAN. This diversity is an integral part of the SPs UGM academic environment, bringing together students with diverse experiences, perspectives, and cultural backgrounds.
The event featured a variety of cultural performances by UGM students, a talk show on student exchange opportunities, and cultural booths showcasing food and traditions from different countries. Visitors also had the opportunity to explore and learn more about the diverse cultures represented with the booth tour sessions.
The event concluded with the International Performance (Grand Performance), featuring collaborative performance by students from several countries. The performance served as a meaningful moment to strengthen interactions and foster cross-cultural connections within the UGM community.
The organization of UGM International Cultural Day 2026 also contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, with opportunities for cross-cultural learning and experiences; SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. It was also fostering an academic environment that supports innovation and connectivity; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, through strengthened collaboration and networks among students from diverse backgrounds.
This event showed UGM continuously fostering an open and inclusive academic environment that values cultural diversity as part of its efforts to build a global academic community.
