The Universitas Gadjah Mada Sustainable Campus Award 2024 program to implement sustainable campus policies through monitoring the efficiency of electricity usage, water usage, and proper waste management, as well as Universitas Gadjah Mada’s regulations in waste reduction efforts, the Dean of the Graduate School, Prof. Ir. Siti Malkhamah, M.Sc., Ph.D., demonstrated her commitment by enforcing waste segregation rules to support environmental conservation efforts at the Graduate School (SPs). This program is carried out by sorting waste into three categories: Organic, Residual, and Inorganic. Each SPs building is equipped with appropriately labeled waste bins corresponding to these categories.

Dean of the Graduate School, Prof. Ir. Siti Malkhamah, M.Sc., Ph.D., stated that this program is part of SPs’ initiative to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 12 on Responsible Consumption and Production. “This effort must start within ourselves by sorting waste diligently,” she said.

In addition to enforcing the rules, the Dean of SPs also collaborates with the local village chief and RT chief in the Graduate School surrounding area for waste management. This cooperation is expected to strengthen the sustainable waste management system in the Graduate School environment.

The implementation of stricter waste segregation rules, the Dean of the Graduate School, Prof. Ir. Siti Malkhamah, M.Sc., Ph.D., hopes to set an example for other faculties/ schools within Universitas Gadjah Mada and other educational institutions in terms of responsible and sustainable waste management.
