Visiting PIT IABI, the Disaster Management Master Program of SPs UGM Promoted National Disaster Resilience

The Disaster Management Master Program at the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (MMB SPs UGM) actively participated in the Disaster Exhibition and Ignite Stage of the 9th Annual Scientific Meeting on Disaster Management organized by Ikatan Ahli Kebencanaan Indonesia (IABI), held at the campus of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) on May 6th–7th, 2026. The MMB Program was represented by its students and Dr. Edwin Maulana, S.Pd., M.Sc., who served as the coordinator in charge.

This exhibition was part of the “Commemoration of the 2nd Decade of the Yogyakarta Earthquake.” To support the success of the event, IABI collaborated with UMY and the Yogyakarta Disaster Risk Reduction Forum (FPRB DIY). The event was inviting participation from various elements of the disaster management pentahelix through exhibitions and showcases.

The event carried the theme “Strengthening Disaster Risk Governance for Resilience.” The MMB Program emphasized the importance of integrating disaster risk management into educational curricula to foster a culture of resilience in decision-making among future leaders.

The MMB Program;s students presented research and projects related to disaster management, highlighting innovative approaches to enhancing community resilience. Their presentations included case studies on local disaster response strategies and the importance of community engagement in disaster preparedness.

The collaboration of IABI, UMY, and FPRB reflects a shared commitment to building global partnerships in disaster management. It shows by bringing together academics, government representatives, and community organizations, the event aimed to create a comprehensive approach to disaster risk governance.

Various workshops and discussions, in addition to the exhibition, were conducted, focusing on best practices in disaster management and the role of technology in strengthening resilience. Participants were encouraged to share their experiences and insights, fostering a collaborative environment for learning and innovation.
