Yogyakarta, August 15th 2025 – The Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), through the Biotechnology Master and Doctoral Program, held the Welcoming Ceremony and Inaugural Lecture for New Students on Friday, August 15th 2025, at the Lecture Hall, 3rd Floor, PAU Building, UGM.
The event was attended by new students from the Biotechnology Doctoral Program (even semester intake 2024/2025 and odd semester intake 2025/2026), as well as new students from the Biotechnology Master Program(odd semester intake 2025/2026).
The program began at 07.30 AM with the singing of the Indonesian national anthem Indonesia Raya and the Gadjah Mada Hymn, followed by welcoming remarks from the Dean of the Graduate School and the Chief of the Biotechnology Program, Prof. Dr. Yekti Asih Purwestri, S.Si., M.Si. The Chief of the Biotechnology Master’s Program, Dr. Dini Wahyu Kartika Sari, S.Pi., M.Si., presented an academic orientation, introduced the available facilities, and introduced the teaching staff to the new students.
As part of the initial orientation, two inaugural lectures were delivered with the following themes:
- “From DNA to Table: The Role of Biotechnology in Achieving Food Security in Livestock Products” by Prof. Dr. Agr. Ir. Muhammad Cahyadi, S.Pt., M.Biotech
- “The Potential of Local Microbiota in Nutraceutical Innovation” by Sari Darmasiwi, S.Si., M.Biotech., Ph.D.
Students participated in a Tour de Campus and Tour de Lab, after the lecture sessions, to become more familiar with the academic environment and research laboratories. The orientation also included non-academic activities, such as introductions to Biotech Camp, community service, national seminars, and preparations for the BioFusion 25 event.
Through this activity, the Biotechnology Program hopes new students will adapt more quickly to the academic environment, build connections with peers across cohorts, and gain a deeper understanding of the strategic role of biotechnology in advancing science and addressing real-world societal challenges.
