Yogyakarta, August 5th 2025 — The Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (SPs UGM) participated in the kick-off meeting for the preparation of the Master Plan and Detailed Design of the Water Tourism and Conservation Park owned by PT Halmahera Persada Lygend (HPAL). The meeting was held virtually on Tuesday, August 5th 2025. This project is part of the company’s strategic initiative to support sustainable mining practices in the industrial area of Kawasi Village, Obi Sub-district, South Halmahera Regency.
The Harita Nickel attendees are Harita Nickel Director Tonny Gultom, Technical & Infrastructure Manager Noval, Green Mining Manager Retno Dewi, and other related technical teams. SPs UGM were represented by the Dean of the Graduate School, Prof. Ir. Siti Malkhamah, M.Sc., Ph.D., Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Cooperation Prof. Dr. Ir. Widyanto Dwi Nugroho, S. Hut., M.Agr., Muhammad Sulaiman, S.T., M.T., D.Eng. as Chief of the Implementation Team, Dr. Priyaji Agung Pambudi, Prof. Dr. Eko Haryono, and other technical support staff.
The park, designed as a multifunctional green open space, will integrate conservation, education, recreation, and aesthetics. This project is also part of the company’s commitment to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and net zero emission (NZE) targets, as well as a tangible form of implementing good mining practices.
The collaboration between SPs UGM and PT HPAL is expected to strengthen environmental resilience around the industrial area but also serves as an educational facility and a means of empowering the local community in a sustainable manner.
