Purworejo (28/09/2024) – The Community Service Program (PkM) team from the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (SPs UGM) actively participated in a community service project organized by the Doctoral Program in Environmental Science at SPs UGM. The event, themed “Provision of Clean Water in Water-Scarce Areas Using Geomagnetic and Magneto-Telluric Methods,” was held in Karangrejo Village and aimed to assist in providing clean water access to residents who have long struggled with water shortages.

The PkM team, including Dr. Sudaryatno, M.Si., Dr. Tjahyo Nugroho Adji, S.Si., M.Sc.Tech., and the technical team from the Doctoral Program in Environmental Science at SPs UGM, was accompanied by Surono, S.Ant., M.A., the PkM coordinator at SPs UGM. Their arrival was warmly welcomed by the Chief of Karangrejo Village, Mr. Fatnani, who expressed the community’s enthusiasm and high hopes for the program’s implementation. “I am very pleased with this initiative. Providing clean water is one of our main needs, and we hope this program will offer a long-term solution for us,” he said.

On the first day of the program, the PkM team initiated an important step by identifying water source points using geomagnetic and magneto-telluric technology. This method is employed to detect potential underground water sources in water-scarce areas, ensuring that the residents of Karangrejo Village can access clean water more easily and sustainably.

This program is expected to serve as a model of impactful community service, particularly in regions facing clean water shortage. The collaboration between SPs UGM and the local government, the program aims to run smoothly and provide lasting benefits to the well-being of Karangrejo Village residents.
