Yogyakarta, February 23rd 2026 — Celebrating the holy month of Ramadan, the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (SPs UGM) organized a Ramadhan lecture series held regularly every day after the Dhuhr prayer. This activity features various inspiring speakers who provide enlightenment and strengthen Islamic values among the academic community.
SPs UGM, in the latest session, invited Ust. Nanung Danardono who delivered a lecture on the theme of halal and haram food from an Islamic perspective. In his presentation, he emphasized the importance for Muslims to clearly understand the sources and processes of the food they consume, as it is closely related to the blessings in life.
Ust. Nanung explained that the concept of halal and haram is not limited to the type of food, but also includes how the food is obtained, processed, and served. Therefore, Muslims are encouraged to be more careful and selective in choosing food to ensure it remains in accordance with Islamic teachings.
“Consuming halal and good food (halalan thayyiban) is an essential part of maintaining the quality of worship and the life of a Muslim,” he stated before the participants of the lecture.
The Ramadan lecture was warmly welcomed by the SPs UGM academic community, who used the moment to deepen their religious understanding while strengthening their spiritual values amid academic activities.
SPs UGM, with this program, hopes to provide a meaningful space for reflection and learning during the month of Ramadan, while also strengthening togetherness and the spirit of knowledge sharing within the campus community.
