The Graduate School of Gadjah Mada University (SPs) has again reaffirmed its commitment to supporting sustainable development with integrated waste management involving various stakeholders. This was conveyed by Prof. Dr. Ir. Widyanto Dwi Nugroho, S.Hut., M.Agr., Vice Dean for Academic, Student Affairs, and Cooperation, during the talk show event Towards the Million Biopore Movement on Saturday (15/6) at the SPs courtyard.
This commitment is manifested, among others, through policy and funding support for SPs’ academic community focusing on environmental issues. The Religion and Cross-Cultural Studies Master Program initiated and fully supports the Million Biopore Movement by collaborating with various stakeholders, including local governments, NGOs, environmental communities, and other elements of society.
This commitment aligns with the policy of the Major of Yogyakarta City, who aims to solve the long-standing waste problem in the region. “Waste management must include reduce, reuse, and recycling at the source. It’s not just about incineration or thermal processes; we must optimize management from the upstream. This requires the support of the entire community. It’s important that we start now,” emphasized Hasto Wardoyo (Major of Yogyakarta).
SPs commitment received full support from various parties and was marked by a joint signing of the Million Biopore Movement at the end of the talk show event. It is hoped that this SPS commitment will further assert its active role as a higher education institution that not only thinks globally but also acts locally for a more sustainable future for the planet.
