Yogyakarta, March 5th 2026 – The Performing Arts and Fine Arts Program (PSPSR) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) organized an Art and Religion Studies Dialogue, coupled with an iftar gathering on Tuesday (3/3/2026). Held in Room 407, 4th Floor of the Graduate School Building, UGM, this event served as an inclusive academic dialogue for the entire PSPSR academic community. Adopting the grand theme “Dharma Ning Nusantara: Stillness, Faith, and Humanity in the Midst of a Noisy World.” The event was officially opened by the Chief of the PSPSR Master’s Program, Dr. Rr. Paramitha Dyah Fitriasari, S.Ant., M.Hum. The discussion session was moderated by I Made Christian Wiranata Rediana.
The forum, featuring I Made Andi Arsana, Ph.D. as the main resource person, highlighted the importance of nurturing humanity amidst diversity. In his presentation, Made Andi shared his experiences of encountering colleagues from various religious backgrounds. He emphasized that mutual respect is the key amidst Indonesia’s cultural and ethnic wealth. According to Made Andi, religious values do not merely shape personal awareness. Religion has a broad social contribution, moving from the individual to the world, and from the world back to shape the individual.
The discussion took place in a relaxed and warm atmosphere. The participants who attended voluntarily brought takjil (light snacks for breaking the fast) to be shared together. This moment of togetherness not only strengthened interactions among participants but also encouraged the growth of empathy and enriched perspectives on diversity issues.
The initiative to organize this dialogue is a concrete manifestation of the PSPSR Program’s commitment in building a dialogic and civilized academic atmosphere. This step also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 4 on Quality Education by providing reflective learning spaces outside of formal lectures. In addition, this activity is also in line with SDG 10 on Reduced Inequalities, which encourages respect for diversity and fosters inclusive attitudes, as well as SDG 16 on Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions through strengthening the values of tolerance, dialogue, and mutual understanding within the academic community.
