
February 27th 2025, Environmental Management (MPL) Master Interest together with the Environmental Science Master and Doctoral Program of Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (SPs UGM) conducted a visit to the Faculty of Engineering Yamaguchi University, Japan. Dean of the Graduate School, Prof. Ir. Siti Malkhamah, M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN.Eng. led the team from SPs in this activity.
Prof. Yoichi Yamadha as the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Yamaguchi University welcomed the arrival of the SPs team. After the welcoming session, Prof. Takahiro Osawa delivered a presentation which was continued by the presentation of the Dean of SPs promoting the academic excellence of the UGM SPs study program.
The discussion took place actively between the SPs team and Yamaguchi University which plans to establish international collaborations, especially for education and research programs. Dr. Priyaji Agung Pambudi, S.Pd., M.Sc., as the representative of the SPs lecturer also explained the joint research program that has been carried out in the Environmental Science Masters Program with one of the research topics regarding technology development for the potential of water resource management.
This visit activity also discussed the dual degree program presented by Prof. Takahiro Osawa. Yamaguchi University has previously collaborated on dual degree programs with several universities in Indonesia such as Udayana University and Riau University which cover fields of study such as civil engineering, environment, and technology management.
The follow-up to this visit requires thorough preparation between SPs UGM and Yamaguchi University to create a scheme and formulate a curriculum design to accommodate academic activities between the two parties. Expansion of funding or scholarship potential is also one of the expected outputs to support students interested in the double degree program.
The results of this visit are expected to open up opportunities for expanding cooperation that supports the realization of the tridharma of higher education. In addition, the cooperation between SPs UGM and Yamaguchi University is expected to provide a transformational experience for stakeholders involved.
