The UGM Graduate School, through the Environmental Science Doctoral Program, conducted groundwater detection in Purwodadi Village, Purwodadi District, Purworejo Regency, Central Java Province. This activity is a community service initiative based on requests from local residents.

“This water detection is very essential for us to find an accurate water source to meet the community clean water needs. Every dry season, we always face water shortages. The activity held by the Graduate School is beneficial—hopefully, it will help us find water and build wells that are suited to our community’s conditions,” said Sarwanto, Chief of Purwodadi Village. He further conveyed that the community needs water detection tools to build wells easier and more efficiently.

This community service activity by the Graduate School is not carried with collaboration to other parties, namely alumni of SMPN 8 Purworejo. In the initial phase, the activity involved checking for the presence of groundwater. The next step will be the construction of bore wells in collaboration with more partners. The wells that are successfully built can be used for irrigation and clean water supply. It is hoped that this collaboration will further strengthen unity and enhance the benefits of the Graduate School’s programs for the community. (suronokarti)
