Yogyakarta (14/01), Geo-Information for Disaster Management Master Program, Gadjah Mada University Postgraduate School held a field lecture attended by 8 students at 8 stopsites along the Yogyakarta Code River. This activity is a form of deepening the material for the Disaster Risk Reduction-Based Regional Development Planning course.
Prof. Ir. Bakti Setiawan, M.A., Ph.D. was a lecturer and coordinator in the implementation of the field lecture. Prof. Bakti explained the spatial potential of the resources around the Code River which is a strategic area because accessibility to public facilities can be obtained easily.
“In my opinion, this activity can increase students’ knowledge in the concept of spatial planning and the process of adaptation of communities along the Code River to face disaster risks. In this activity I was able to see firsthand the buildings, facilities and community houses that were arranged to reduce the disasters’ risk. And you can see the socio-cultural conditions of the Code River community regarding disaster mitigation with the existence of inter-community communities,” said Phisca Maulana Zaky Ichsany, one of the Geoinfo students involved in this field lecture activities.
On this occasion, students were invited to explore and analyze in depth the regional conditions in the Code River area, especially regarding resource potential and think critically about the concept of disaster risk reduction. The potential disasters that you should be wary of around the Code River are floods, landslides or earthquakes. Therefore, the concept application of disaster risk reduction is very important in spatial planning in the area around the Code River.
Important aspects in regional development planning based on disaster risk reduction around the Code River that can be used are land, buildings, energy, technology and information, also money. Spatial planning around the Code River is carried out by involving the community and refers to the M3K concept (backward, to go up, facing the river) which means that development around the Code River is carried out by setting houses back to the river, raising houses to the river, and facing the houses towards the river.
