Jakarta (15/7) — The Master’s program in Information Management and Library (MIP) at the Graduate School (SPs) UGM conducted a series of visits to four libraries in Jakarta. The visits included the National Library of Indonesia (Perpusnas), the Indonesian House of Representatives Library (Perpustakaan DPR RI) on July 1st 2024, and the Financial Supervisory Agency Library (Perpustakaan BPK RI) as well as the Goethe-Institut Library on July 2nd 2024.
The visits, attended by 11 MIP students along with two MIP faculty members, Dr. Silverius Djuni Prihatin, M.Si, and Drs. Ida Fajar Priyanto, M.A., Ph.D.The aim of this visit was to enhance understanding of library design.
On the first day, the group visited the National Library of Indonesia, where they were welcomed by Resti Fatmawati, S.I.Pust, the library tour guide. The activity began with an introduction to the library, followed by a quiz with prizes of two books published by Perpusnas, titled Kumpulan Naskah yang Dibacakan oleh Bataviaasch Genootschap van Kussten en Wetenschappen and the translated work Sekuncup Cempaka Layu dalam Pelukan. The visit continued with a library tour on the 24th floor.
On the same day, the group proceeded to the Indonesian House of Representatives Library in Jakarta, where they were received by Ade Effendi, S.Sos., M.M. There was also a presentation by Widya Chalid, S.H., a young librarian from the DPR RI. After the presentation, a discussion followed.
On the second day, the group visited the BPK Library, where they were welcomed by Dewi Kanisari, SS, Chief of the BPK Library Subdivision. Notable features of this library include the Legal Documentation and Information Network (JDIH) BPK and its achievement of the Best JDIHN Award I in 2019 of the government institutions.
The visit on the second day concluded at the Goethe-Institut Library, where they were greeted by Nathalie Sugondho, Chief of the Library Department. A unique aspect of this library is its “Library of Things” service, which lends out items such as pots, blenders, grills, or other objects as needed by the community. The library is predominantly in German, so librarians here are also required to have German language skills. At the end of the session, students were given a biography book titled Raden Saleh.
This activity also aligns with the implementation of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) Number 4, which focuses on quality education, and Number 17, which emphasizes partnerships to achieve goals.
