The Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (SPs UGM) continues to expand its international network by hosting a delegation from Baylor University on November 20th 2024, at the Graduate School Leadership Meeting Room. This visit aimed to enhance global collaboration potential across various fields, including international seminars, double-degree programs, and joint research.
One of the key topics discussed during the meeting was collaboration in international seminars or conferences. For instance, Baylor University had contributed to The International Graduate Students and Scholars’ Conference in Indonesia (IGSSCI), organized by SPs UGM in 2023. Paul Martens from Baylor University was among the keynote speakers at the online IGSSCI event. Both institutions aim to expand this collaboration by involving more academics and students in future events.
The Dean of SPs UGM, Prof. Ir. Siti Malkhamah, M.Sc., Ph.D., expressed optimism about this partnership. “We see great opportunities to implement double-degree programs supported by funding from LPDP and other sources. These programs not only enrich students’ academic experiences but also strengthen the academic ties between the two universities,” she stated.
Research collaboration also became a focal point of the discussion. Currently, partnerships between SPs UGM and Baylor University include the Graduate Program in Religious and Cultural Studies (ALB) and Inter-religious Studies (IRS). However, both parties are committed to expanding collaboration to involve other study programs, aiming for broader impacts and benefits.
This visit underscores the commitment of SPs UGM and Baylor University to create mutually beneficial partnerships in education, research, and international development. Through this collaboration, both institutions aspire to make tangible contributions to the advancement of knowledge, education, and sustainable global development.
