Yogyakarta, 18th December 2025 — The utilization of the e-library was one of the key focuses in the series of Scientific Writing Workshops organized by the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (SPs UGM), held on 17th–18th December 2025. The session entitled Utilizing the e-Library took place on the second day of the workshop and featured Dr. Safirotu Khoir as the speaker.

Dr. Safirotu Khoir, Coordinator of Public Relations and International Affairs at the UGM Library as well as a lecturer in the Information and Library Management Master Program (MIP) at SPs UGM, emphasized that the e-library plays a strategic role in improving the quality, integrity, and scholarly practices of scientific writing. Students were encouraged to rely on the ease of access to information and also to develop critical skills in selecting credible and relevant academic sources.

Participants, during the session, were introduced to various types of academic information sources, including books, journal articles, conference papers, and research reports. The speaker also highlighted the importance of identifying reputable journals and top journal lists relevant to each field of study, as well as utilizing indexing databases to ensure the quality of reference sources.

The reference management became a key focus of the e-library session. Participants were provided with an understanding of how to use reference management tools such as EndNote, Zotero, and Mendeley to compile reference lists systematically and in accordance with academic standards. According to the speaker, reference lists reflect the depth of an author’s thinking and constitute an essential component of academic integrity.

Issues related to plagiarism were also discussed through the introduction of similarity-check services provided by the UGM Library, as part of its support for upholding academic ethics. The optimal use of the e-library expected students to produce scientific works that meet graduation requirements but are also suitable for publication in reputable journals.

This e-library session constituted an important part of the Scientific Writing Workshop series at SPs UGM, which was designed as a semi-intensive mentoring program for master and doctoral students in preparing high-quality and integrity-driven journal publication manuscripts.
