The Tourism Doctoral Program at the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (SPs UGM), in collaboration with the Center for Tourism Studies (Puspar UGM), organized a scientific journal article writing workshop for doctoral students within SPs UGM. The workshop took place on March 19th – 20th 2025. The collaboration aimed to enhance students’ capacity in understanding and composing journal articles as a form of scientific writing while also developing their skills in selecting journals that align with their research interests and academic needs.
This initiative was also designed to train students in exploring cutting-edge tourism research themes (state of the art) and to equip them with in-depth knowledge of various aspects of journal articles, including content, scope, publishing mechanisms, and strategies for publishing in reputable journals.
The workshop featured distinguished speakers in the field, including Prof. Dr-Phil. Janianton Damanik, M.Si., Dr. Muhamad Yusuf, M.A., Dr. Erda Rindrasih, S.Si., M.U.R.P., and Alvi Syahrina, S.T., M.T., who shared their experiences and insights on effective and strategic scientific writing.
The workshop, on the first day, was officially opened by the Chief of the The Tourism Doctoral Program, Drs. Hendrie Adji Kusworo, M.Sc. In his opening remarks, he emphasized the importance of an academic journey that not only focuses on research substance but also on the skills required for writing and publishing scientific research. “This forum serves as an essential opportunity for students to enrich their academic experience—not only in terms of substantive research but also in the technical aspects of scientific writing,” he stated.
The second day of the workshop focused on in-depth sessions with each speaker. Students were encouraged to actively participate in these sessions to produce journal articles that meet scientific standards and have the potential for publication in reputable journals.
The Tourism Doctoral Program at SPs UGM, through this workshop, hopes to further prepare its students to contribute to the academic world through high-quality scientific publications that impact the advancement of tourism studies.
