Yogyakarta, September 19th 2025 — The Media and Cultural Studies Doctoral Program, The Graduate School Universitas Gadjah Mada, organized a Dissertation Proposal Workshop for students of the 2024 cohort. The event took place on Friday (19/09) from 11:30 AM to 4:30 PM at the Citra Wirya Meeting Room, Lobby Floor, The Malioboro Hotel & Conference Center, Yogyakarta.
The workshop aimed to provide a platform for doctoral students to present their dissertation proposals while receiving constructive feedback from reviewers and fellow students. Participants, through this process, were expected to refine, strengthen, and sharpen their research proposals so that their dissertation projects would progress in a more structured and academically rigorous manner.
During the session, each student presented their dissertation proposal before reviewers and other participants. Every presentation received responses, critiques, and suggestions from the two main reviewers, Budiawan, S.S., M.A., Ph.D. and Ratna Noviani, S.I.P., M.Si., Ph.D., as well as input from peers in attendance. This process created an atmosphere of active, critical, and supportive academic discussion.
The workshop unfolded in a dynamic spirit. Students received substantive evaluations of their research ideas and methodologies and also learned from the diverse perspectives that emerged in the forum. This exchange of ideas became an important means of fostering a collaborative academic community, while also preparing students to move forward confidently into the next stages of their research.
The Media and Cultural Studies Doctoral Program, through this workshop, reaffirmed its commitment to support students from the earliest stages of their academic journey through to the completion of their dissertations. The proposal workshop is expected to serve as a strong foundation for the 2024 cohort as they embark on their academic endeavors, while also ensuring the quality of research produced as a contribution to the advancement of knowledge in the field of cultural and media studies.
