Yogyakarta, July 18th, 2024 – The Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (SPs UGM) signed a cooperation agreement with the Library and Archives Office of Gunungkidul Regency for the transformation of regional libraries. The event, organized in the SPs UGM Leaders’ Meeting Room, aims to encourage the development of imagination, increase reading interest, and cultivate human resources in Gunungkidul Regency to be virtuous, creative, and advanced.
The signing ceremony was attended by the Regional Secretary of Gunungkidul Regency, Drs. Sri Suhartanta, M.Si., the Chief of the Library and Archives Office of Gunungkidul Regency, Kisworo, S.Pd., M.Pd., and several other officials. In his remarks, the Regional Secretary emphasized the importance of libraries as centers of knowledge and creativity for the community.
This library transformation cooperation has several main objectives, including:
- Encouraging the Imagination Development, by providing a diverse and high-quality collection of books, the library is expected to become a source of inspiration and imagination for children and teenagers. The library will also hold various creative activities such as story contests, writing workshops, and other artistic activities.
- Increasing Reading Interest, with the provision of comfortable and attractive facilities and various reading programs, the library aims to increase reading interest among the community. Programs such as book clubs, storytelling activities, and reading campaigns are expected to encourage more people to make reading a daily habit.
- Cultivating Virtuous, Creative, and Advanced Human Resources in Gunungkidul, the library transformation is also aimed at developing human resources who are not only intelligent but also virtuous, creative, and ready to face future challenges. The library will serve as a learning compound that supports character and skill development through various training and educational activities.
Dean of the Graduate School, Prof. Ir. Siti Malkhamah, M.Sc., Ph.D., hopes that this cooperation can bring positive changes to libraries in Gunungkidul Regency. Creating possible literacy and creativity centers accessible to all segments of society. The Government of Gunungkidul Regency and its cooperation partners are committed to continuously supporting these efforts for a better future.
