The Biotechnology Study Program, in collaboration with the Center for Biotechnology Studies at the Graduate School of Gadjah Mada University (UGM), organized a Proteomics Workshop themed “Introduction to Proteomics: Techniques and Applications.” The workshop took place on October 16-17 at the Center for Biotechnology Studies, PAU Building, UGM. Participants included graduate students from Master’s and Doctoral programs in Biotechnology, researchers, professionals in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, and industry professionals focused on proteomics and peptide research.

Dr. Yekti Asih Purwestri, M.Si., Chair of the Center for Biotechnology Studies, opened the event and served as a guest speaker at the workshop. In her opening speech, Dr. Yekti mentioned that the workshop is designed to provide comprehensive knowledge and practical experience in proteomics, focusing on techniques and applications. “Thanks to the protein research group and peptide research group for collaborating to organize this proteomics workshop. We hope it will lead to new research innovations to address issues related to biomedical development,” said Dr. Yekti.

The event featured Prof. R. Manjunantha Kini, a professor from the Protein Science Laboratory at the National University of Singapore, along with four guest speakers: Dr. Koh Cho Yeow from the National University of Singapore (NUS), Hendy Dwi Warmiko, S.Si., M.M., General Manager of Corpora Science, Dr. Yekti Asih Purwestri, M.Si., and Dr. Tri Rini Nuringtyas, M.Sc., Chair of the Biotechnology Study Program.

On the first day of the workshop, participants attended theoretical sessions where speakers introduced the basic principles of proteomics and its relevance in modern biotechnology and drug discovery. In addition to theoretical knowledge, participants also engaged in laboratory work on the second day, aimed at equipping them with key proteomics techniques and their applications in research.

The workshop also provided a platform for networking among participants, speakers, and industry professionals. Such collaborations are crucial for advancing research and development in biotechnology, which plays an essential role in addressing global challenges like food security and health issues.
