The Bioethics Master Program at the Graduate School of Gadjah Mada University held an international conference entitled International Bioethics and Humanities Conference 2024 (IHBC) on 6th – 8th November 2024. This activity took place at The Alana Yogyakarta Hotel and Convention Center.
This activity is collaboration of the Bioethics Master Program and various partners in the field of education and research both domestically and abroad, such as Sebelas Maret University, National University of Singapore (NUS), Ministry of Health RS Sardjito, Ministry of Health BB Binomika, and several other partners.
The conference will be a platform for dialogue on how environmentally friendly technologies can address the challenges posed by rapid technological advances and their implications for health and the environment.
The conference, entitled “Bioethics to Preserve Humanity: Navigating through Technology Advancement, Medical-Health Challenges, and Environmental Crisis”, reflects the urgent need to address the interconnectedness of these issues. With the increasing impact of climate change and environmental degradation on public health, this conference will highlight the importance of integrating bioethical considerations into technological innovation.
Students who join the conference will have the opportunity to engage in workshops, panel discussions, and speeches led by leading experts in the fields of bioethics, environmental science, and technology filled with competent speakers from various universities and research centers.
The resource persons who participated in presenting the material were Prof. Dr. Ir. Hammam Riza, M.Sc., IPU from the Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity Research Center, National Research and Innovation Agency who presented material on “The global movements to foster ethical science-technology advancement in a multicultural and pluralistic society”.
IHBC also aims to amplify bioethical voices and perspectives, particularly from Southeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific region. By providing a platform for local academics and practitioners, the conference aims to highlight regional contributions to global bioethics discussions and promote collaborative research initiatives.
