Religion and Cross-Cultural Studies Master Program (ALB), Inter-Religious Studies Doctoral Program (IRS), and Islamic Economics and Halal Industry Doctoral Program (PIIH) at the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) have been awarded 61st in the world in the field of Theology, Divinity, and Religious Studies in the QS World University Rankings By Subject 2024.
This achievement makes UGM the only university in Indonesia to be listed among the top 141 universities in the world, alongside Harvard University, Oxford University, Cambridge University, and Notre Dame University.
Prof. Ir. Siti Malkhamah, M.Sc., Ph.D., the Dean of the Graduate School of UGM, expressed pride in the school’s religious studies field to the top 100 in the world, having previously achieved 47th place. “This is certainly something to be proud of and we are grateful for, as it is recognition of our achievements in Theology, Divinity, and Religious Studies. This is the achievement of various faculties and the Graduate School (SPs) of UGM,” said the Dean to reporters on Sunday (April 21st).
According to the Dean, the study of religion as an academic field has developed significantly in many countries. In Indonesia, however, religious studies are mostly conducted at religious universities. UGM is the first public university to establish these programs in Indonesia and remains the only one. In particular, the IRS Doctoral Program, established in 2006, is part of a consortium of three universities along with the State Islamic University of Sunan Kalijaga and Duta Wacana Christian University.
“Our uniqueness lies in combining various methodologies across different disciplines,” the Dean added. She also said the study of religion as an academic field has developed significantly in many countries. In Indonesia, however, religious studies are mostly conducted at religious universities. UGM is the first public university to establish these programs in Indonesia and remains the only one to date. The IRS Doctoral Program, established in 2006, is part of a consortium of three universities along with the State Islamic University of Sunan Kalijaga and Duta Wacana Christian University.
