The Biotechnology Program, Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), held a Publication Manuscript Workshop on Monday, 24th August 2026. The activity, which took place in the North Examination Room on the first floor of the Biotechnology Study Program, PAU Building, UGM, was part of the program’s efforts to improve the quality of students’ academic writing and their readiness to prepare scientific articles for publication.

The Publication Manuscript Workshop was designed as a platform for students to receive feedback on the manuscripts they had prepared. Prior to the workshop, participants were required to submit their manuscript drafts for review and feedback during the session.

Students joined the workshop, receiving feedback on the substance of their research and also on various aspects of academic writing. Corrections related to grammar, sentence structure, clarity of ideas, and efforts to avoid misconceptions were important components of the manuscript improvement process.

One of the participating students, Ria Suryani, said that the workshop provided valuable input for improving her manuscript draft.

“I received suggestions for improving the manuscript draft I had prepared, not only regarding the substance but also in terms of writing and editing, as well as sentence structure to improve clarity and avoid misconceptions,” said Ria.

Ria said the feedback obtained during the manuscript workshop was also directly relevant to the process of writing her dissertation. The activity helped her improve the quality of her manuscript and prepare the article for submission to her target journal.

“It was important to improve the quality of the manuscript draft and prepare the participants before the submission process to their targeted journals,” she explained.

The Publication Manuscript Workshop is expected to help students produce more mature manuscripts, both in terms of research substance and presentation. Guidance and feedback prior to submission are also important steps in enhancing students’ preparation to navigate the scientific publication process.

The activity, in addition to support the quality of students’ publications, also contributes to strengthening an academic culture that encourages a systematic approach to scientific writing, from drafting and receiving feedback to revising manuscripts and preparing it for submission to targeted journals.
