The Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (SPs UGM) has reaffirmed its commitment to foster an inclusive campus by organizing a Disability Services Training on Thursday, April 16th 2026. The event was held in collaboration with the UGM Disability Services Unit (ULD) and took place at the 5th Floor Auditorium, 1st Unit SPs UGM Building.
The training was attended by administrative staff, lecturers, and students within the SPs UGM community. The program was designed with classroom-based lectures and also included hands-on practice sessions to strengthen participants’ understanding.
This initiative, in the broader context of national policy, aligned with various regulations, including Law Number 8 of 2016 on Persons with Disabilities, as well as higher education policies promoting inclusive services. As part of UGM, SPs is committed to ensuring that every individual, including persons with disabilities, has equal access to quality education.
SPs UGM, to date, has provided various supporting facilities such as accessible toilets, ramps, and wheelchair services. However, physical infrastructure alone is considered insufficient. Support from human resources—including administrative staff, lecturers, and students—plays a key role in creating an inclusive and dignified learning environment.
The training featured speakers from the ULD UGM team, including Wuri Handayani as the Chief of the Disability Services Unit. Participants were equipped with comprehensive knowledge on the concepts and types of disabilities, principles of inclusive campuses, and standards of excellent service for persons with disabilities. In addition, they were trained to apply proper communication ethics, respect diversity, and avoid stigma in daily interactions.
This activity represents a strategic step in building collective awareness (disability awareness) within the campus environment. It is expected that all members of the academic community will actively contribute to creating an equitable, accessible, and sustainable educational space.
SPs UGM, with a strengthened spirit of inclusivity, continues to uphold the values of being grounded, independent, and sustainable, while supporting the realization of fair and inclusive higher education for all.
