Students of the Environmental Science Master and Doctoral Programs at the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (SPs UGM) actively contributed to the success of an international event. The 2026 Annual Meeting of the Geography Society, held at National Changhua University of Education in Taiwan from April 23rd–27h, 2026. Participation in this event was member of the Student Mobility Program, designed to broaden global perspectives, enhance academic competencies, and strengthen international networks.

The delegation consisted of 14 participants, including students, lecturers, and alumni, all of whom contributed as presenters in various scientific forum sessions. The forum was divided into several panels, including three Joint Panels on Environmental Sustainability, which were collaborative initiatives of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), and National Changhua University of Education (NCUE).

Prof. Dr. Eko Haryono, Chief of  Environmental Science Doctoral Program at UGM, stated that involvement in international forums serves as a strategic platform to enhance students’ academic capacity, particularly in scientific communication and the development of global perspectives. This view was also supported by Dr. Sudaryatno, Chief of the Environmental Science Master’s Program, who emphasized the importance of cross-country experiences in strengthening students’ academic and professional competencies.

The event, in addition to scientific presentations, also featured workshops and networking sessions aimed to foster collaboration among participants. These sessions provided opportunities for students and researchers to connect with experts in their respective fields, exchange best practices, and explore potential research collaborations. A strong spirit of cooperation was shown throughout the event, as participants understood their responsibility in addressing global environmental challenges.

The involvement of students from the Environmental Science Master and Doctoral Programs at UGM in this international meeting reflects their commitment to advance knowledge and promote sustainable practices. Active participation in global forums will enhance academic reputation and also contribute to collective efforts in addressing environmental issues on a global scale.
