Environmental Science Doctoral Program at the Graduate School of Gadjah Mada University (SPs UGM) is conducting a Community Service (PkM) activity, which is one of the pillars of higher education. The PkM activity, held on September 28th 2024, titled “Provision of Clean Water in Water-Scarce Areas in Karangrejo Village, Loano District, Purworejo Regency Using Geomagnetic and Magneto-Telluric Methods.” This is a collaboration between lecturers and students of the Environmental Science Doctoral Program.
The involved lecturers are Dr. Sudaryatno, M.Si., Prof. Dr. Eko Haryono, M.Si., and Dr. Tjahyo Nugroho Adji, MSc.Tech, along with students Iga Maliga and Heni Wahyu Sartika. The aim of this activity is to apply appropriate technology in the form of geomagnetic and magneto-telluric methods to detect groundwater drilling points in Karangrejo Village and address drought issues during the dry season by providing alternative points that potentially have groundwater resources.
“My involvement as a student in the Environmental Science Doctoral Program at UGM in the clean water provision initiative in Purworejo represents a tangible contribution to address field problems. I am very grateful to be invited to participate and assist in this community service program alongside the lecturers,” said Iga Maliga, a student involved in this activity.
This activity serves as a program that bridges students to think critically and logically to find strategies to combat drought in specific areas, particularly in Karangrejo Village. Effective strategies can be implemented by the community using available resources to meet their basic water needs. Additionally, this activity is expected to expand cooperation as a form of sustainable community service.
