Success Motivation and Strategies for PhD: In-Depth Discussion on Writing and Publication Tips

The Environmental Science Doctoral Program at the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada successfully held an Alumni Writing and Motivation Workshop with the theme “Tips for Planning a PhD Without Delay – Don’t Be Afraid to Fail (Publication), Because Failure is the Best Teacher” on September 3th – 4th 2025. This hybrid event was attended by several doctoral students from the Graduate School and the Faculty of Geography.

Prof. Dr. Eko Haryono, M.Si, Chief of the  Environmental Science Doctoral Program, delivered the opening remarks and also presented material on scientific publication writing.

Prof. Eko emphasized that the goal of this workshop was to accelerate progress and ensure on time completion of doctoral studies. Students are also expected to produce scientific publications meeting standards of reputable national and international journals.

The next session featured a presentation by Dr. Tjahyo Nugroho Adji, S.Si., M.Sc.Tech., sharing valuable insights and strategies for getting scientific papers accepted by national and international journals as a graduation requirement for doctoral students.

The final session was a sharing session with alumni of the Doctoral Program in Environmental Science, including Dr. Vincencia Septaviani Issera S P, S.Hut., M.P, Dr. Westi Utami, S.Si., M.Sc, Dr. Adnin Musadri Asbi, S.Hut., M.Sc, and Dr. Risman Jaya, S.Pd., M.Si. The invited alumni shared their experiences and provided encouragement, leaving a positive and motivational impression on current students working to complete their studies.
