On March 22nd 2025, the Performing and Fine Arts Studies Program (PSPSR) of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a public discussion forum that focused on the relationship between art and religion. The event took place in the hallway in front of the PSPSR office, starting at 15.30 WIB and ending with breaking the fast together. The forum was opened with remarks from Dr. Rr. Paramitha Dyah Fitriasari, S.Ant., M.Hum., who welcomed all participants and emphasized the importance of discussing the relationship between art and religion in the context of education and cultural understanding.

Dr. G. Budi Subanar, S.J., who is known as Romo Banar, was the main speaker at this event. He delivered in-depth material on academic and cultural perspectives on the relationship between art and religion. His discourse highlighted how art serves as a medium of spiritual expression and how religious themes have historically influenced works of art.

The discussion was interactive with active participation from the audience, which consisted of students, lecturers, and invited guests. The solemn and serene atmosphere of the discussion was further enriched by the raindrops outside, creating a reflective backdrop for the discussion. Participants engaged in constructive dialog, sharing thoughts and experiences related to the themes presented.

As the discussion progressed, participants gained a deeper understanding of the complex relationship between art and religion. This exchange of ideas created a collaborative environment, allowing various perspectives to be shared. These interactions not only enriched the academic discourse but also strengthened the bonds within the PSPSR academic community.

In addition to the academic discussions, the event also celebrated the 65th birthday of Dr. Gabriel Roosmargo Lono Lastoro Simatupang, M.A. This celebration added a personal touch to the gathering, where participants expressed gratitude and respect for Dr. Gabriel’s contributions in the fields of art and education.

The event was closed with closing remarks from Dr. Rr. Paramitha Dyah Fitriasari, who thanked the speakers, participants, and all those involved in organizing the forum. She emphasized the importance of continuing this kind of discussion to further enhance the understanding of art and religion within the academic community and beyond. Overall, this public discussion forum ran smoothly and served as a platform for knowledge exchange and strengthening relationships among the PSPSR academic community.
